Tempers Flare as Phils win 9-2
As a Flyers fan myself, I remember, like many others, the sign shown at the Flyers-Senators game this past season where a brawl started, "Old Time Hockey" was the sign. Well if the Phillies had a famous sign man like the Flyers I'm sure he would have had something like, "Old Time Baseball" for tonight's game vs the San Francisco Giants, or even something with the 93 Phils thown in there. The Phils were cruising towards winning game 2 of this 4 game series with San Fran when in the top of the 6th with the Phils leading 8-2, Ramon Ramirez hits Shane Victorino with a pitch and then it was go time. Shane went after Ramirez and benches would soon clear and it was an all out brawl. There was no doubt that Ramirez hit Shane on purpose, now all of this started because of last year's NLCS. Most importantly when Chase Utley was hit by a pitch by Jonathan Sanchez (who also happened to be the starter for the game tonight) and Chase tossed the ball back to Sanchez which lead to benches clearing as well. Victorino was ejected from the game along with Ramirez and Giants catcher Eli Whiteside.
As for the rest of the game, well it was total domination by the Phils, the offense started out slow but picked it up with a 4 run 4th inning. Victorino and Mayberry each homered and then later in the game Hunter Pence also homered to make it 9-2 Phillies which would end up being the final score. Vance Worley in front of friends and family pitched another great game improving his record to 8-1 on the season.
What a game it was, this Giants-Phillies rivalry is really starting to become on of baseball's premier matchups right now and this game showed why. Now while I doubt we'll see another brawl between these two teams in this series, you can definitely expect some great baseball and considering how hot these two teams are at each other, anything is possible. LET'S GO PHILS!
