Pitt Panthers take down Oakland in first round action.
In the end, Oakland just was not a match for Pitt, falling 89-66 to the Panthers. 6 Panthers scored in double figures as Pitt, down 5 early, would carry a 13 point lead into halftime. The panthers would then use an uncharacteristic 50 point second half to win by 23. Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown each led the team with 17 points a piece. Nasir Robinson scored 13, pulled down a team high 6 rebounds and dished out a team high 5 assists. Pitt shot 54% from the field and held the Golden Grizzlies to only 19 made baskets on 57 attempts.
The Big East might have struggled on the first day but Pitt and West Virginia both served notice today that they are forces to be reckoned with in the coming rounds.
Pitt will play Xavier in the round of 32 on sunday.
