The Phils have received some good luck on their minor league signings including all of last season's Wilson Valdez contributions.
A former first round sandwich draft pick of the Braves, Meyer has basically been a bust. *Incidentally, this was the moneyball draft with fat catcher Jeremy Brown going next. I wonder if the Braves would like to have taken the guy who went 10 picks later, Joey Votto.
Anyway, back to the former James Madison Royal Duke. Meyer, who's 29, has really only had one good year in the big leagues, and was in 2009 with the Florida Marlins. Out of the bullpen he posted a 3.09 ERA and 1.17 WHIP while collecting 20 holds. He was cut by the Marlins last year after allowing 10 runs in only 9 innings.
All in all, not an earth shattering grab by any stretch of the imagination, but still a good get for organizational pitching depth.
Well that's just bad luck. Good luck making this again:
