No, I'm not talking Jayson Werth, he's probably good as gone with the rumored suitor of the Red Sox. I'm talking Juan Samuel. He'll be coaching third base as Sam Perlozzo moves across the diamond to coach first. Hopefully Perlozzo learned some important base stealing tips from Dave Lopes. However, replacing a guy who is 25th in stolen bases all time. Kind of funny he's not that far ahead of roid head Barry Bonds.
The Phils also have made some transactions. Minor ones. Very minor. Here they are:
- Pete Orr: last played in 2009 for the Washington Nationals. He owns a career .260 batting average...and not much else. Not a bad minor league deal. He plays second and third and the utility depth is weak.
- Eddie Bonnie: a right handed reliever also signed to a minor league deal. He pitched in 47 games last year and sported a 4.63 ERA, not horrible for the AL. However, his k/9 is only 3.4, so he's not going to miss many bats. Figures to be more depth than anything.
- Erik Kratz: nice, we signed the Pirates garbage. He's a career minor leaguer who got his first cup of coffee last year, getting 4 hits in 9 games. Who needs him when we have Paul Hoover at catcher!
You've probably seen this already, but it's still hilarious:
