After escaping with a win in the desert, the Phillies destroyed the Mets tonight by a 10-3 final. Ryan Howard had a big night at the plate driving in 6 runs, with 2 home runs, one a grand slam. Vance Worley was called up to take Blanton's spot in the rotation after he went on the DL. Worley pitched 6 shutout innings and did a great job in his 2011 debut, he struck out 5 and even though he walked 4, did a great job in his first game of the season.Another interesting note from this game, Placido Polanco eclipsed Chase Utley's record for hits in April as he got his 39th hit of the month tonight. Polanco has quietly put together an amazing start to the season. Howard has 27 RBI's now in the month and with one game left still in the month, could possibly reach 30. The Phils got a small scare in the 9th when the Mets got homers from Ike Davis and Jason Pridie, but not enough to really get people nervous as Herndon got the last 2 outs and ended the blowout. Oh and another stat for the Big Man Ryan Howard, Howard hit his 10th career grand slam. The record for NL grand slams is 18 by Willie McCovey, so if Howard can keep up the pace he's at, he can definately break that record, and if he gets enough chances, maybe even challenge the MLB record of Lou Gherig of 23 grand slams. The bullpen did a good job tonight as well as Michael Stutes and Danys Baez threw 1 shutout inning each. The Phillies also tied their record for most wins in the month of April with 17, this hot start is a good sign for the Phils, but the question will be if they can keep it up. The offense has struggled, the pitching has been solid, defense has been solid as well. Chase Utley still doesn't have a timetable for his return and it looks like it'll stay that way. No disrespect to guys like Micheal Martinez, Pete Orr, and Wilson Valdez, but missing a guy like Chase affects the team, no matter what. Tommorow the Phils send one of their aces Roy Halladay to the mound to help the Phils clinch a series win over the Mets. LET'S GO PHILLIES!
