The Phillies closed out the homestand with a complete destruction of the Mets today with an 11-0 win. Roy Halladay pitched great baseball for the Phils not allowing a run and striking out 7 over 7 innings. The Phillies offense was also in high gear as Wilson Valdez went 4-4 with 3 runs batted in. Raul Ibanez jacked his first home run of the season in the 7th inning off Mets reliever Tim Byrdak. Placido Polanco also had a big day at the plate going 2-5 with 4 runs batted in. The Phillies were in complete control after the 3rd inning. They scored 4 in the 4th to take a commanding 6-0 lead and never looked back. Every single one of the Phillies starters got a hit, even Roy "Doc" Halladay got a hit. Carlos Ruiz got a RBI as well as he went 1-4. The Phillies bullpen closed out the game with scorless innings by Danys Baez and David Herndon. The Phillies have come out of the gate strong with a sweep over Houston and then taking 2 out of 3 over the Mets. The offense looks strong and the pitching has gotten off to a good start as well. The Phillies hit the road next to face the Atlanta Braves for the first time in 2011, Cliff Lee will make his second start and it will be the Phillies first road game of 2011 as well. Tim Hudson is scheduled to pitch for Atlanta, both pitchers are 1-0 on the season and it looks like a great matchup. The Phillies last year were 43-35 on the road, hopefully they can continue that success this season. LET'S GO PHILLIES!!!
