NLCS Rematch Begins Tonight
Yes Phillies fans, the SF Giants are back in town for a rematch of last year's NLCS. The Phillies hold the best record in baseball at 64-37 and 6 games up on Atlanta in the NL East. The Giants lead the West by 4 over the surprising Arizona Diamondbacks with a record of 59-43. Last year the key problem for the Phils in the NLCS was their offense, their offense has been criticized this year as well, many say we need a right handed bat to hit behind Ryan Howard. But if you actually look at how the offense has played this year they actually have been much better than last season. By no means is our offense the same caliber of the teams from just a few years ago, but we still have a solid offense. The Giants offense has been just horrible, they rank 27th in the MLB in runs scored. Lucky for the Phils, they won't have to face the Giants young great catcher Buster Posey, Posey is out for the year with the much publicized incident at home plate.
The Phillies don't have an easy task facing the Giants pitching staff, but luckily we won't have to face one of the Giants post season heroes from last year Madison Bumgarner. They will have to face Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito, and Matt Cain though. Lincecum has struggled this year and isn't performing at the level he's capable of. But don't let that fool you, he's still a good pitcher and could twirl a gem at anytime. Zito hasn't pitched much this year but knowing how the Phils struggle against guys who don't throw hard, he could have a good game as well. Matt Cain, well he's Matt Cain, great pitcher who puts up very consistent numbers year in and year out.
For the Phils they'll send Vance Worley, AKA "The Vanimal" to face the Giants in game 1. Worley has never faced the Giants but is having a fantastic year and hopefully will be able to keep the Phils in the game at least. Game 2 we'll see Cole Hamels try and pick up win number 13, Hamels hasn't done well against the Giants in his career with a 4.67 ERA, hopefully that ERA will be lower after game 2. Kyle Kendrick will be on the mound in game 3, Kendrick has been solid of late but he's tough to deal with, when his sinker is good, he'll keep the Phils in the game, if it's not....you're maybe looking at a 3 inning start.
This is gonna be a great series, the fans will be crazy at CBP and the Phils have to be thinking about some redemption for last year. So over the next 3 days, make sure you're able to watch the Phils, because you don't wanna miss any of this series. LET'S GO PHILS!
