It was one of those games for the Phils. Where they don't score at all against the starter and then when the bullpen comes in, the Phillies take over. Kyle McClellan shut down the offense for the first 7 innings only allowing one run on a pinch hit single by Ross Gload. Trevor Miller came in out of the Cards bullpen to begin the 8th inning with the Cardinals leading 2-1. Shane Victorino started one of the most memorable innings in Phils history with a single. Chase Utley walked to have runners at first and second with 1 down. Then came Jason Motte out of the bullpen, and the floodgates opened, Ryan Howard was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and then Placido Polanco was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Polanco would be replaced by Wilson Valdez as Polanco was hit on his hand. X-rays were negative though so hopefully Polly can play tonight. Ben Francisco, off the bench, got a single to left to score Utley and the Phils took the lead. Carlos Ruiz and Michael Martinez both walked to force in two runs, and then J-Roll broke the game wide open with a two run single. After Victorino walked Chase Utley padded the lead even more with another two run single. The Big Man Ryan Howard tacked on the final run with a single. Valdez flied out to right to end the rally. All in all, the Cardinals bullpen allowed 9 runs, Jason Motte didn't even get one batter out but gave up two runs. David Herndon finished the game off in the 9th and the Phils won 10-2.

The big story throughout the first 7 innings was the pitchers duel between Roy Halladay and Kyle McClellan, Halladay was sharp and only allowed one run over 6 innings while striking out 5. McClellan went 7 innings of one run ball and struck out two. Obviously the main difference in the game was the bullpen, the Phils bullpen only allowed one run while the Cards allowed 9. Michael Stutes allowed the only run by the bullpen but is still having a great season. Antonio Bastardo and Herndon shut down the Cards for the final two innings.

The big concern though about last night was Polanco, while X-rays were negative expect the Phils to be catious with him over the next week or few days. He hasn't been hitting at all of late and the last thing we want is for him to be hurt. While the offense definately wasn't at their best tonight, they did turn it on once the bullpen came in for St Louis. Tonight Cliff Lee goes for the Phils tonight against Kyle Loshe. Lee has been stellar of late and will look to keep rolling tonight. Loshe on the other hand has struggled of late and has allowed 4 runs in each of his last 3 starts. LET'S GO PHILS!
