Avram Grant signs with West Ham
Avram Grant, the Israeli born soccer coach, has signed with West Ham today. We are not sure which of the many metaphors most correctly explains his resilience and perseverance. One can't help but think of the infamous stereotype of European Wandering Jews or should we say he is a cat with nine lives? Grant is on his third club in England in as many years. He was brought onto Chelsea by Roman and as quickly as he came he was gone. Some were disappointed that the stacked Chelsea team he inherited could not win the EPL from Manchester United. But Grant was then relegated to Portsmouth. We do not need to rehash the woes of Portsmouth this season and they were ultimately relegated to the Football League Championship. Grant left and was immediately picked up by West Ham today. So three clubs in 3 years. We can hardly blame him for Portsmouth's woes this year but the fans in Chelsea were not happy with his performance as coach. Regardless of whether you like his coaching style and his results you have to admit that the youtube clip included with this entry is pretty good. Grant shows exactly why he coaches soccer and does not play it. Some other Chelsea personnel are no less impressive in attempting to hit the cross bar from midfield but Grant looks awkward striking ball.
